▪ Dom Perignon for Champagne Sorbet, Martha? I don’t think so!
Now Martha just when you are getting real and folksy and we are thinking that you are one of us, you pull this elitist ingredient out of your pantry! Well, for the rest of us who feel that dom perignon is a little pricey at best, and as an ingredient a waste of valuable $$$, though I am sure that it enhances the flavor of the sorbet to some extent over our pedestrian selections, MDM offers a more affordable alternative recognizing that the printed version of Martha’s recipe does not specify dom perignon, but brut:
The Wine Shop[www.wineshopnyc.com] MDM suggests Jacques Bonet Brut Champagne for cooking, or, in this case, for making sorbet. At $3.99+sh a bottle, this is highly affordable and not a bad drinking champagne either–particularly good in a champagne fountain.
Bev Mo Beverages and More[www.bevmo.com] If you don’t mind a pink caste to your sorbet, you could use Andre’s Pink Champagne for $3.49+sh bottle. Good site for moderately priced wines.
Or for slightly more money, but decidedly not pricey, you may try:
Binny’s Beverage Depot[www.binnys.com] An italian Mionetto Prosecca brut at $11+sh. Slightly sweeter than champagne, but a brut worthy of sampling while you are making the sorbet! Site is fun and has a large selection.
